About the Programme Manager Position

This is a senior position with critical responsibilities and the potential for advancement as further staff are added in the future.

Our objective is to assist entrepreneurs in navigating the entrepreneurial ecosystem and become ready to absorb external funding and develop partnerships. The Programme Manager will be responsible for monitoring, mentoring, and growing our Development Entrepreneur Programs in Malawi.

This role reports to the Founder and President based in the United States and works closely with the Country Coordinator based in Lilongwe. Please note that this is a remote position. The successful candidate must have his/her own work-space and access to a computer and internet connection.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work one-on-one with a portfolio of entrepreneurs to help launch, sustain, and/or scale social their enterprises.

  • Canvass the development ecosystem for resources, partnerships, and opportunities that could help entrepreneurs with scientific and technical advising.

  • Provide tailored support to entrepreneurs based on their needs, including help with proposals, budgeting and financials, best hiring practices, and monitoring social impacts.

  • In partnership with universities and private sector partners, organize regionally-based workshops that focus on areas of need for professional growth for entrepreneurs.

  • Connect entrepreneurs with other networking opportunities as needed.

  • Collaborate with the Lead, External Relations and Energy Initiatives, as well as the US-based team, to conduct Development Entrepreneur Labs (DELabs) with university partners.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree; an advanced degree in business or development-related field desirable

  • Three+ years of work experience in development or a business-related field

  • Experience with startups and knowledge of the entrepreneurship ecosystem

  • Knowledge of business plan structures

  • Experience with social impact assessment and measurement

  • Experience in writing and editing proposals

  • Experience in budgeting and financial management

  • Experience in building and maintaining strategic partnerships

  • Experience organizing events or workshops

  • Research skills; ability to self-learn on multiple development issues

  • English fluency, both written and spoken

  • Ability and willingness to travel nationwide to visit entrepreneurs

  • Reliable internet connection

  • Experience with social media, Microsoft Office suite, Google Drive, and Gmail a plus
